About us
In response to social distancing restrictions the West Tisbury Library and the Friends Foundation decided to construct a Virtual Gallery space designed as a digital platform for our community members, and visiting patrons, to view and access the monthly rotating artist exhibitions in a time when access to the building is limited or unavailable.
The community room gallery space was created thanks to the continued contribution, support, and efforts of the West Tisbury Library Foundation, donations from our community members and visiting supporters, grant funding, and the generous contribution of the monthly exhibiting artists.
A percentage of the sales generated through the exhibition are donated, by the artist, directly back into our library’s foundation fund. This funding helps to provide our community with a more enriched experience and creates the possibility for outlets such as the Virtual gallery and other vital programming available through the library. Thanks, in part, are due to Dena Porter for her suggestions and participation in this digital showcase, without which this venue may not have come to be.
The West Tisbury Library stands as a host for many commemorative features to honor our generous donors and to provide a collective space for honoring members of our community, our families, and our friends. From the memorial brick walk-way to the tranquil healing gardens surrounding the library and the community room’s program/gallery space, the West Tisbury Library and the West Tisbury Library Foundation are committed to honoring the community for which it exists.
The West Tisbury Library Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 foundation. The Foundation has, in part, relied on the efforts of generous volunteers who have donated their time to participating in the annual book sale and other charitable events throughout the year. In the words of Dan Waters, a local author and the foundation chair - "Life-long education is not an "extra" but a necessity...Our library is not only a source of reading and entertainment materials, but also the center of vital community activities and services that edify, enrich, and bring together town and island residents and visitors".
We are thrilled to share this virtual space as a new addition to our community's available library features which will remain in place even after social distancing restrictions have been lifted.
This website was designed and constructed by Lauraye White, Wind Weaving Designs, the West Tisbury Library's Art Curator.
