Animals populate Max Skjöldebrand’s photographs, whether they also include people or not.

Skjöldebrand’s choice to shoot in black and white endows his work, even those with movement

in them, a subdued quality you would not get with color that could distract from the tenor of

the scene. Skjöldebrand says, “Much of my recent photography is in black and white which, I

believe, not only accentuates sharp contrasts between dark and light but also reinforces the

composition of an image.”
