Born N. Y. C.  in 1935.  Studied at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N. Y. 1953-1955, and at The Cooper Union in N. Y. C. 1955- 1959; Certification of Fine Arts, The Cooper Union.

 

Grew up in rural New Jersey. As a girl, she was inspired to become an artist by the German Expressionist painter, Josef Scharl, who was a family friend.  At The Cooper Union, she studied painting with Nicholas Marsicano and printmaking under Will Barnett and began her first woodcuts.  From 1959 to 1967 - save for two years in Eugene, Oregon and six months of travel in Europe- she worked as a freelance commercial artist in New York City.

Her son Eli was born in 1967, and her son Jake in 1972.

 

She joined the Smith Street etching group in Brooklyn in 1984 and in 1985 was in group shows at the Smith Street Gallery in Brooklyn and the Atlantic Gallery in New York City.

 

In 1986, she had a one woman show at the On the Vineyard Gallery ln Tisbury, Mass., where from 1987 to 1989 she also took part in group shows. In 1989 and 1990 , her work was also at the Kendall Gallery in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. In 1991, her woodcuts were shown at the Gay Head (Mass,) Gallery. In 1992, she showed at the Field Gallery in West Tisbury, Mass., and in 1993 at the Wooden Tent Gallery in Tisbury.

 

In recent years her woodcuts were shown at the Hermine Merel Smith Fine Art Gallery in West Tisbury where she had a retrospective, at the Shaw Cramer Gallery in Vineyard Haven , at the Sargent Gallery in Aquinnah and at the Galaxy Gallery in Oak Bluffs.
