Alison Shaw eschews identifiable, iconic moments for stunning color compositions that linger

on abstraction. Her work departs from the earlier black and white images she did as a

photojournalist for the Vineyard Gazette where she had to capture a broad representation of

what the fair had to offer. Shaw says, “For ‘Picturing the Fair’ there were no such parameters. I was free to photograph however the spirit moved me, and to focus my vision quite narrowly.”  Her “Tractor Studies” and the “Blue Ribbon Winners” are intimate, tightly cropped “portraits” that make us stop and look at what might be familiar subjects in a unique way.
